Rug care

Annual cleaning :

First of all, we recommend a complete annual cleaning for any non-washable rugs.
For the latter, you have two options:
- Firstly, you can entrust this task to a carpet professional.
- Secondly, you can dry-clean your carpet using a cleaning powder or foam. We recommend Terre de Sommières, which can be sprinkled on and left to act for several hours or even a day (and then vacuumed up)!

These two options apply to your jute, cotton, wool and sheepskin rugs.
However, if you have a polypropylene rug with short strands (<30mm), you have a third option:
You can clean it yourself using a brush and soapy water. Scrub the entire surface of the rug, then dry. With polypropylene, there's no need to worry about the rug warping during drying!
It's time for spring cleaning!

General care instruction for Sheepskin, Jute, Wool and Cotton rugs :

Shake your rug regularly to remove dust and other dry particles from the rug. We recommend this first option, but if you wish to use a vacuum cleaner, be sure to remove the brush and always set it to low power, avoiding back and forth movements; this will keep your carpet in its best condition. Your lungs and those of your children will be particularly grateful for these gestures!
In addition, if a thread is sticking out, make sure you don't pull on it, as this could damage the carpet. Instead, opt for a small cut with the scissors!

General care instruction for Polypropylene rugs :

Be sure to vacuum regularly, without scrubbing, to remove dust and other dry particles from the carpet. Your lungs and those of your children will be particularly grateful! In addition, if a thread is sticking out, make sure you don't pull on it, as this could damage the carpet. Instead, cut it out with scissors!

Care for Cotton machine-washable rug

First of all, please refer to the "composition" feature at the bottom of this data sheet, which will tell you the washing machine capacity required to clean this rug.
Wash your carpet separately at 30° maximum, using a short delicate cycle (maximum 30 minutes) and a mild soap.
We recommend a gentle spin, especially if the carpet has bangs or braids.

Here are some things NOT to do:
- Don't leave it wet in the machine; its colors may bleed.
- Be careful not to use bleach or fabric softener, as these can damage your rug.
- Do not tumble-dry your rug or expose it to direct sunlight, as this may damage its color.
- Don't dry-clean your rug.
- Don't wash your carpet too regularly, as this may damage the material!
Don't worry, though: there's nothing wrong with a bit of material loss at the start of use - it will gradually diminish!

Jute rug tips

Your rug is made of a natural material that doesn't absorb water immediately, so when a liquid is accidentally spilled on it, you have a some time to react! The first thing to do is to mop up the liquid. Then, to clean up any liquid or other stains, simply take a brush or a clean cloth and scrub with soapy water. Be careful not to use a hard brush, as this could damage the rug's pile. Also, be careful not to scrub too hard, as you risk damaging your rug by fraying the fibers. To be on the safe side, you can dry the water you've just applied with a hair dryer to avoid any moisture that could damage your carpet.
If any solid residues remain clinging to your carpet, remove them with the blade of a knife and brush the area concerned. You can finish off with a quick vacuuming for impeccable results.
PS: Please note that the material of this carpet does not tolerate moisture! Do not clean with wet shampoo or steam cleaner.

Polypropylene rug tips

Your rug is made of a non-absorbent material, so when a liquid is accidentally spilled on it, you've got plenty of time to react! The first thing to do is to mop up the liquid. Then, to clean up any liquid or other stains, simply take a brush (or a clean cloth) and scrub with soapy water. Be careful not to use a hard brush, as this could damage the carpet's pile.
And here's some great news: your carpet is made of a non-deburring (i.e. non-friable) material, so you don't have to worry about any of its threads coming loose when you rub it!

Cotton and Wool rugs tips

If you spill liquid on your beautiful rug, the first thing to do is sponge it up. Then, to clean up any liquid or other stains, simply take a brush or clean cloth and scrub with soapy water. Be careful not to use a hard brush, as this could damage the carpet's pile.
In addition, here are a couple of grandmotherly tricks that might come in handy:
-To get rid of a stubborn stain or other staining liquid, take a clean cloth soaked in white vinegar, rub the stain and leave for 15 minutes!
-To kill two birds with one stone, i.e. to remove a stain that can't be machine-washed and/or to remove an unpleasant odour, coat the spot on your carpet with soda water, scrub gently with a brush, leave to dry for half an hour and then sprinkle with baking soda. Once the bicarbonate is dry, all you have to do is vacuum and you're done!

How to dry-clean your carpet: terre de Sommières

Discover a 100% natural product for dry-cleaning your rug. You can not only treat a stain, but also give your entire carpet a shine. Terre de Sommières is also perfect for getting rid of carpet odors.
It's a very effective clay for removing stains embedded in your carpet, such as grease or wine stains. To use, sprinkle some terre de Sommières on the stain and leave overnight. Use a vacuum cleaner or brush to remove the soil, but never mix it with water. You can also sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on a stubborn stain: rub the bicarbonate onto the stain, leave for around 12 hours, then vacuum up.

Occasional degreasing with white vinegar

Like soapy water, white vinegar loosens carpets, but more effectively. This method can be used to clean heavily soiled and greasy carpets. What's more, white vinegar is gentle on the material, making it suitable for all types of carpet. To degrease your carpet, you'll need the same elements as for cleaning with soapy water. These are: bucket, water, sponge, white vinegar and liquid soap. Soak the sponge in a mixture of warm water, white vinegar and liquid soap. Then clean your carpet, giving more time to the stains. Rinse with a cloth dampened with clean water and leave to dry. To brighten up a dull carpet, dampen the cloth with sparkling water instead of plain water.
